Phone scams – please be vigilant

What is a phone scam?

Phone scams are a common way for criminals to try and get hold of your information and money.

They are similar to cold calls, as the call is not expected and is usually from a company or person you have never dealt with before.

However, unlike cold calls, which are just annoying, a scam caller will go to great lengths to ensure you part with your money.

The age.uk website lists the many different types of phone scams to look out for – click the link below to read more.

Phone calls with Reach & Respond

If you are contacted by telephone by Reach & Respond, we will always:

1. Tell you who you are talking to, we will give you our name and which department we work for

2. Issue you a receipt number if we are taking a payment from you

3. Offer you an email receipt after taking a payment.

If you are ever in doubt about who you’re speaking to, you can call us on 0333 370 1234 and ask to be put through to that person to help you verify it was really them.

If you have confirmed that the phone call you received was a scam and money has been taken from you, it is important you immediately contact your bank. You can speak to your bank by calling the centralised number 159 or by calling the number on the back of your bank card.

Action Fraid is the national fraud and cyber crime reporting centre. You can report the scam to them by visiting their website at actionfraud.police.uk or by calling and speaking to an Action Fraud Advisor on 0300 123 2040.
